The Future of the GOsC – Matthew Redford

Matthew Redford has served as Chief Executive and Registrar since September 2019 and is accountable to the Council for delivering the organisation’s agreed strategy.

In his role, Matthew ensures the organisation has clear plans in place to deliver its work effectively and maintains strong engagement with stakeholders to understand the challenges and opportunities facing the sector. He also works closely with the Chief Executives and Registrars of other healthcare regulators on wider issues affecting healthcare regulation, including regulatory reform.

As Chief Executive and Registrar, Matthew is accountable for the performance of the GOsC against external performance standards, including those set by the Professional Standards Authority. He is particularly proud of the organisation’s 14-year unblemished record of successfully meeting these standards.

Matthew believes that a successful organisation depends not only on performance, but also on creating the right working environment and setting the tone from the top. He places a strong emphasis on ensuring colleagues are supported to perform their roles to the best of their ability, which is why organisational culture and values are so important to him and to the GOsC.
