Importance of Imaging – Ian McDermott

Ian trained at Saint Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School and qualified in 1992. His postgraduate medical training was then undertaken in various hospitals across the UK, including Southend, Peterborough, Northampton, Nottingham and Oxford. In 1998 Ian started specialist training in Trauma & Orthopaedics as a Specialist Registrar in the North West Thames region. During his training, Ian spent a period at Southampton General Hospital with Mr David Barrett, as a specialist Knee Fellow. Ian completed his specialist training in 2003, and was then awarded his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) and was entered onto the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council. Ian was appointed as a Consultant in the Orthopaedic Department at Ealing Hospital in April 2005 and took up his position there in June 2005. Prior to this he was employed as a Locum Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Consultant at Hillingdon Hospital for 11 months. Ian has now left the NHS and works exclusively in the independent sector.

Petra qualified as an osteopath at the University College of Osteopathy (formerly the British School of Osteopathy), before going on to complete postgraduate diplomas in both Paediatric Osteopathy and Women's Health Osteopathy. She has undertaken extensive additional training in women's health, including continence, gynaecology, and the menopause. Her professional development includes observing at the specialist menopause clinic at Guy’s Hospital and regularly attending educational events organised by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, as well as the British Menopause Society. After practising in England for 8 years, she relocated to the Orkney Islands 3 years ago, where she continues to practise and gives public talks on a range of women’s health topics, including the menopause.

Tongue Tie: A Better Understanding – Dee Bell

Dee Bell is a registered midwife, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), and a Specialist Tongue-Tie Practitioner based near Brighton, where she lives with her daughter, Florence. With over 20 years of experience in midwifery, Dee began her career training as a midwife and went on to serve within the NHS for more than 16 years. She later transitioned into private practice, focusing exclusively on infant feeding and tongue-tie treatment—areas in which she has become a highly respected expert. To offer more personalised care, Dee founded Birth, Baby & You, a dedicated feeding support service for new families. Her mission has always been to provide families with the expert guidance and time they truly need during the early stages of parenting. Over the past 13 years, Dee has supported thousands of families with infant feeding and has carried out thousands of tongue-tie release procedures, solidifying her reputation as a leading specialist in the field. In 2021, she realised a long-held ambition by founding The Infant Feeding Academy. Pelvic Power: A Therapeutic Approach to Pelvis & Floor Disorders – Toosie Bawden

Toosie Bawden’s physiotherapy journey began with a BSc (Hons) from the University of Cape Town, followed by three years of diverse clinical experience in South Africa. After relocating to London, she developed a strong interest in sports injuries and gained extensive experience working with runners, cyclists, and triathletes at PhysioSW19. Since 2012, Toosie has specialised in Women’s Health, earning a Postgraduate qualification through the Pelvic Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy (POGP) professional network. She now integrates her musculoskeletal expertise, Pilates training, and Women's Health knowledge to provide comprehensive rehabilitation for women across all age groups. To further advance her clinical practice, Toosie is currently undertaking the Australian Women’s Health Diploma.
