FREE EVENT - Safety in Osteopathic and Chiropractic Practice
The Role of the High Velocity Thrust
Thursday 5th June 2025 - LIVE from Swansea University

About The Event
High Velocity Thrust (HVT) techniques remain controversial, with ongoing concerns about their safety and potential for serious adverse effects. So, is there still a role for HVTs in clinical practice — and if so, can they be performed more safely?
Join Professor Laurie Hartman, a world-renowned expert with over 50 years of experience, as he shares his unique approach to spinal manipulation. In this free event, Laurie will explain and demonstrate his methods, offering practical insights into safer, more effective HVT delivery.
You’ll have the chance to ask questions, explore best practices, and learn directly from one of the most influential figures in manual therapy.
Book Now to Avoid Disappointment!
We're bringing our TV studio to Swansea, so this is going to be a great fun event. It's open to all osteopaths and student osteopaths, and ...it's completely FREE!
We're even providing wine and nibbles, to make it a truly social CPD show.
However, the Lecture theatre (room 126 in the Glyndwr Building) only has space for a certain number, and our gallery, lights and cameras are taking up some of that. So it's important that you register now to secure a seat (and a glass of wine!).
What's In It For You?
You'll get a much better understanding of how manipulation (HVT) can be fine-tuned to a state of perfection where there is minimal risk to the patient (and minimal effort on the part of the practitioner).
Prof Hartman will explain when HVT is appropriate and when it's not. He'll also let you know the factors you need to bear in mind to justify your treatment if you are ever held to account.
From his demonstration of 'minimal leverage technique', you'll be able to improve your manipulations, leading to better patient outcomes.
Although the event is being laid on for the osteopaths and student osteopaths at Swansea University, the matters under discussion are equally relevant to chiropractors - let's face it, the techniques used are very similar across the professions. Chiropractors and student chiropractors are very welcome to attend - it'd be a great opportunity to build some bridges between the professions!
