Basic Neuro Testing and Red Flags – Barry Jacobs

June 5, 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Barry Jacobs qualified from the British School of Osteopathy in 1986 shortly after which he started in part-time private practice in Radlett. He then completed a 2 year medical fellowship in clinical cardiology at Charing Cross hospital and went on to the University of Westminster’s Masters Programme ‘Bodywork and Community Medicine’. From 1989 he was a demonstrator and lecturer in Clinical Methods at the BSO and was eventually appointed senior clinical lecturer in diagnostic clinical procedures and reasoning. He was much involved in the development of post-graduate staff training and was there for 17 years. This was commensurate with his work on the early diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy intended for ratification at PhD, some of which has already appeared in publication and has enjoyed citation in the international medical literature. It has resulted in the development of a single-use testing device now believed to be amongst the most popular devices of it’s kind used by neurologists in North America. He is also joint author, with partner Laurence Butler, of a “probability-criticality” diagnostic algorithm now utilized as a reference tool in the medico-legal setting. Between 2006-8 he was visiting lecturer at the Royal Society of Medicine and is currently visiting lecturer at the University of Salford teaching primary care clinical medicine to ‘first contact’ clinicians in out patients and A&E.
