Cauda Equina Syndrome

The National Protocol

The UK's national guidelines for dealing with suspected cauda equina syndrome were updated in February this year.

It's absolutely essential that all musculoskeletal practitioners are aware of this new pathway.  The consequences for patients where the early indicators are missed can be catastrophic, and the recriminations on the practitoner could be severe.

The recording below is of James Booth, formerly a Spinal Fellow at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, in conversation with APM Director Steven Bruce.  James explains very clearly how the guidelines affect Primary Care Practitioners and the best way to ensure that your patient is seen as soon as they arrive at A&E.
